Pilates for Pelvic and Spinal Rehabilitation
Pilates is a unique form of exercise which emphasizes the balanced development
of core strength, body postural awareness, and flexibility. This form
of exercise has been well researched for effective and safe exercises
for pelvic and spinal rehabilitation.
Our certified Pilates Instructors work closely with our patient's physical
therapist in creating the most effective and safe program for their body's
needs. As these exercise programs target the "core", they can
be essential in spinal rehab, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, specialty
conditioning during and after pregnancy, prevention of pelvic organ prolapse,
decreasing pelvic pain, regaining shoulder motion after breast reconstruction,
and countless other conditions.
What to expect in a typical Pilates session?
Pilates exercise sessions can be done privately or in a group session.
We often utilize specialty Pilates exercises for our patient's physical
therapy exercise prescription. Although we offer exercises on our Pilates
equipment, home programs during and post rehab are also designed.
Pilates before, during and after Pregnancy
If you are planning to become pregnant or are currently pregnant, let us
guide you through this journey and into optimal pelvic health. Aside from
our Pelvic Muscle Preparation and Healing class, which is taught by our
specialized pelvic physical therapists, we offer individualized Pilates
sessions to optimize your pelvic floor and improve tone. Exercises will
be modified according to pregnancy stage and your comfort level.
