Infection Prevention
Hoag Infection Prevention Program
Hoag Infection Prevention ensures patient safety by reducing the risk of
acquiring and transmitting infections and provides a multidisciplinary
approach to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections acquired
in the hospital or brought in from the community. Hoag’s goal is
to eliminate healthcare-acquired infection for the entire circle of patient care.
Hoag Infection Prevention participates in community outreach programs,
employee health programs, and hospital wide educational programs:
- Surveillance, prevention and control of hospital-associated infections
and drug resistant organisms
- Investigate and control hospital outbreaks among patients
- Develop and maintain infection prevention/control policies and procedures
for all hospital departments
- Educational programs to assure quality of patient care
What you can do to prevent infection and illness:

- Clean your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, throw
the tissue in the trash after use and always clean your hands afterwards
- Stay home when you are sick and remain at home until at least 24 hours
after you are free of fever
