Classes & Workshops

Well-informed patients are better equipped to navigate the challenging journey through cancer treatment and recovery. That is why Hoag offers a wide array of free educational programs to support cancer patients in their quest for knowledge.

In addition to the cancer education programs listed below, Hoag offers a variety of support groups designed for cancer patients and their families.

Breast Cancer Orientation Class​

We invite all newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to attend this special educational class designed to address the unique concerns of the newly diagnosed breast cancer patient. Learn about the support and resources available at Hoag and in the community. Held in the Patty & George Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium. Feel free to bring an adult support person with you.

1st Tuesday of the month, from 6-7:30 p.m.
3rd Thursday of the month, from 12 -1:30 p.m.

Workshops for Well-Being

These unique workshops provide an important avenue for achieving well-being and improved quality of life.

Art & Creativity for Healing: Expressing Feelings with Color - This workshop provides a structured approach of guided art exercises designed to elicit a creative response that encourages the release of stress, grief, anger and many other emotions. Learn more.

Creative Expressions Art Program – This program is based on the idea that the creative process of art can enhance one's quality of life. Workshops are held quarterly and utilize different art mediums at each meeting. No skillset required, all patients and their family and support are welcome. Fatigue 101 - Join us for a class, provided in collaboration with Hoag Rehabilitation Services, that will discuss fatigue management (physical, emotional or spiritual). Learn more.

Food vs. Supplements: Eating Your Way to Good Health - A class designed to discuss the long-time debate between the benefits of food vs. supplements. Join Registered Dietitians Denise Lohman and Jessica Tamashiro as they discuss "powerhouse" foods, and where to find the nutrients people often seek in pill form. Learn more.

Free-Flow Writing Workshop – A workshop designed to teach writing techniques for reducing stress and anxiety. The group meets the second Thursday of each month from 1-2 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A.

HealthRHYTHMS Drum Circle – Join us to try a new alternative therapy for reducing stress and strengthening your immune system. Learn more.

Healthy Eating Classes - Join us for a healthy cooking class for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. This interactive and educational program will consist of a cooking demonstration, with tasters and take home recipes, addressing nutrition and healthy cooking for cancer survivors, families and the community. Lymphedema Workshop – An educational workshop provided by Lymphedema specialist Leslie Craner. The workshop is held the first Tuesday of each month in the Hoag Cancer Center, Conference Room A from 2-3 p.m.

Meditation for Stress Reduction – A workshop designed to teach basic meditation techniques for reducing stress and anxiety. The group meets the first and fourth Tuesday of each month from 1-2 p.m. in the Hoag Cancer Center Auditorium.​

Reiki - Reiki is offered as a complementary therapy to support your medical treatment by eliciting the relaxation response enhancing wellness on mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels. After a Reiki session people often say they have more energy and feel peaceful. Reiki classes are held the first and third Friday of each month. Learn more.

2016 Spirituality Series - As part of Hoag's ongoing commitment to holisitc cancer care, we are delighted to offer a 2016 Spirituality Series. Each session is structured around a theme and features conversation and creative expression to midfully explore the hidden wholeness of our souls.
