Well-informed patients are better equipped to navigate the challenging
journey through cancer treatment and recovery. That is why Hoag offers
a wide array of free educational programs to support cancer patients in
their quest for knowledge.
In addition to the cancer education programs listed below, Hoag offers
a variety of support groups designed for cancer patients and their families.

We invite all newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to attend this special
educational class designed to address the unique concerns of the newly
diagnosed breast cancer patient. Learn about the support and resources
available at Hoag and in the community. Offered in Irvine the second Tuesday
of each month from 12-1:30 p.m. and Newport Beach the first Tuesday from
6-7:30 p.m. and third Thursday from 2-3:30 p.m. Feel free to bring an
adult support person with you.

Hoag Family Cancer Institute also offers an online orientation to our center.

Art & Creativity for Healing: Expressing Feelings with Color - This workshop provides a structured approach of guided art exercises
designed to elicit a creative response that encourages the release of
stress, grief, anger and many other emotions.
Creative Expressions Art Program – This program is based on the idea that the creative process of
art can enhance one's quality of life. Workshops are held quarterly
and utilize different art mediums at each meeting. No skillset required,
all patients and their family and support are welcome. Registration required,

Dayan Qigong: Mind-Body Care for Cancer Patients - Qigong is a complementary health practice to aid in self-healing, maintain
health and achieve longevity.

Fatigue 101 - Join us for a class, provided in collaboration with Hoag Rehabilitation
Services, that will discuss fatigue management (physical, emotional or
Free-Flow Writing Workshop – A workshop designed to teach writing techniques for reducing stress
and anxiety. The group meets the second Thursday of each month from 12-2
p.m. in the Hoag Newport Beach Cancer Center, Conference Room A.
HealthRHYTHMS Drum Circle – Join us to try a new alternative therapy for reducing stress and
strengthening your immune system.
Healthy Eating Classes - Join us for a healthy cooking class for cancer patients, survivors and
caregivers. This interactive and educational program will consist of a
cooking demonstration, with tasters and take home recipes, addressing
nutrition and healthy cooking for cancer survivors, families and the community.
Lymphedema Workshop – An educational workshop provided by Lymphedema specialist Leslie Craner.
The workshop is held the first Tuesday of each month in the Hoag Newport
Beach Cancer Center, Conference Room A from 2-3 p.m.
The Magnificent Seven: Nutrition Myths and Cancer – There are many nutrition questions with a diagnosis of cancer and many
theories given to patients and caretakers. Dietitians will go over a variety
of nutrition-related beliefs and provide research-based information on
the truths and misconceptions. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 11am-12:30pm
in the Hoag Newport Beach Cancer Center, Conference Room A.
Meditation and Guided Imagery – A workshop designed to teach basic meditation techniques for reducing
stress and anxiety. The group meets the first and fourth Tuesday of each
month from 1-2 p.m. in the Hoag Newport Beach Cancer Center Auditorium,
and the first and third Thursday of the month from 1-2 p.m. at the Hoag
Irvine Cancer Center.
Reiki - Reiki is offered as a complementary therapy to support your medical treatment
by eliciting the relaxation response enhancing wellness on mental, emotional,
physical and spiritual levels. After a Reiki session people often say
they have more energy and feel peaceful. Reiki classes are held the first
and third Friday of each month at Hoag Newport Beach Cancer Center, and
the second and fourth Friday of the month at Hoag Irvine Cancer Center.
Spirituality Series - Join us for conversation and creative expression to mindfully explore
the hidden wholeness of our souls. Topics include: solitude, the power
of story, the gift of emptiness, and hospitality. The series is open to
patients, families, caregivers and staff.
