Jay Puangco, M.D., ABMS, FAASM

Service Chief, Voltmer Sleep Center

Dr. Puangco is an innovative and forward thinking member of the Voltmer Sleep Center. He is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurology and the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Puangco is very active in the medical community and is affiliated with the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Dr. Puangco brings extensive and well-rounded experience to the Voltmer Sleep Center. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) and a residency in Neurology at USC. He completed a fellowship in Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Neurophysiology at USC and a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at University of California Los Angeles.

While not seeing patients at the Voltmer Sleep Center, Dr. Puangco maintains a private neurology practice in Irvine and is a neurohospitalist for Hoag in Newport Beach and Irvine.


Bahram Alavy, M.D.

Board Certified Sleep Specialist

Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Physician

Dr. Alavy (Alavynejad) has practiced Critical Care Medicine at Hoag since 2004, when he graduated from the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at USC+LAC Medical Center. He has practiced sleep medicine since 2009 and recently joined the Judy & Richard Voltmer Sleep Center where he provides comprehensive and exclusive care to patients with general sleep disorders, with a special interest in insomnia and sleep apnea.

Dr. Alavy graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine (Grenada, West Indies) in 1997, and finished a three-year Internal Medicine residency program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of the Yeshiva University in Bronx, New York. He served as a junior faculty member and chief resident at the same institution for an additional year. Dr. Alavy is Board Certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine.

He has served as voluntary faculty in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at USC+LAC Medical Center, and holds fellowship positions at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Alavy is an active member of several national professional societies including ACP, ACCP, ATS and AASM.

Robert A. Moore, M.D.

Board Certified Sleep Specialist and Staff Neurologist

Dr. Robert Moore has been a physician at Hoag Hospital for nearly 20 years. During his tenure, he has been a part of the Sleep Committee and the Ethics Committee. Dr. Moore is also a key member of the staff at the Voltmer Sleep Center.

Dr. Moore also holds numerous distinctions outside of Hoag Hospital including being a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, National Board of Medical Examiners and an Accredited Clinical Polysomnographer since 1987. He is an active member of many organizations including the American Academy of Neurology, Orange County Neurology Society, California Medical Association and the Orange County Medical Association.

Dr. Moore maintains a private practice focusing on Neurology and is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center.

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Yale University and went on to receive his medical degree in Neuroscience from the University of San Diego in 1979.
