Hoag’s Outpatient Cardiovascular Services at Hoag Health Center Irvine
Janet May was scared. When she began to find it painful to walk short distances
around the house and complete her usual activities, she worried that these
symptoms might be related to her heart.
After experiencing a heart attack more than a decade earlier, Janet knew
the symptoms for women were sometimes atypical.
She made an appointment with
Mahmoud R. Eslami, M.D., an expert in interventional cardiology at Hoag. He ordered blood work and an ultrasound test at Hoag’s Vascular
Laboratory at
Hoag Health Center Irvine.
“When you’re in a cardiovascular situation, you’re very
concerned,” Janet said. “Your heart is everything. Of course,
you’re scared, but Hoag has a way of making you feel everything
is going to be okay.”
Heart and vascular patients like Janet now have access to the latest diagnostic equipment
at Hoag Health Center Irvine.
The Irvine outpatient heart and vascular services, one of the renowned
programs offered by
Hoag’s Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute, is an expansion of the Newport Beach location, bringing world-class specialists,
state-of-the-art technology and high quality patient care closer to home
for residents of Irvine and the surrounding communities. Irvine’s
facility offers the very latest in vascular ultrasound and screening technology.
“Our goal is to provide cardiac services in Irvine that compare with
the best clinics in the world,” Dr. Eslami said.
Hoag’s heart and vascular outpatient services provides exams like
Electrocardiogram (EKG) to test the electrical activity of your heart,
Echocardiogram to produce moving pictures of your heart, and the Holter
monitor, which is a portable EKG to monitor your heart activity for extended
periods of time. The services facilitate minimally invasive methods for
the treatment of certain types of vascular procedures, including venous
disease to treat varicose veins, treatment of pseudoaneurysms, guided
vascular access for carotid endarterectomy and peripheral vascular disease.
Hoag’s Vascular Lab also offers convenient ultrasound screenings for
carotid artery,
aortic aneurysm and
peripheral arterial disease.
Hoag has one of only two vascular labs in California that is accredited
in all categories by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)
and is only one of four such labs nationwide.
“We want to assure patients that our facilities meet the highest
standards in the nation,” Dr. Eslami said. “Our specialized
and dedicated team at Hoag lets patients know their heart is in the right
hands.”
Following Janet’s diagnostic testing at Hoag’s Vascular Lab,
she underwent an angiogram and subsequent stenting in her legs to treat
her blockages. While she was nervous, she had complete faith that she
was in the best hands with Hoag and Dr. Eslami.
“I give a lot of accolades to the people at Hoag,” she said.
“They saved my life. Not only was I fortunate to have a skilled
cardiologist, but I was also very well taken care of by the excellent
cardiac care unit nurses. They provided unbelievable care and support
to me and my family.”
