March 6 – 10, 2019, at the Newport Beach Country Club
After 20 years, Orange County’s only PGA TOUR sanctioned event is
entering a new era with Hoag assuming title sponsorship.
The inaugural
Hoag Classic will take place on March 6 – 10, with presenting partners Konica
Minolta and City National Bank. The event will draw golf legends such
as Fred Couples, John Daly, Bernhard Langer, Mark O’Meara and 2018
Champion, Vijay Singh back to Newport Beach Country Club to compete for
the $1.8 million purse.
The Hoag Classic Championship Weekend kicks off on Friday, March 8 with
Corporate Day, presented by City National Bank. This is the perfect day
to get out of the office and engage clients during the first round of
competition with one of the best fields on the PGA TOUR Champions. After
play, start the weekend off right by sticking around to listen to live
music presented by John Wayne Airport, and enjoy libations and hors d’oeuvres.
Saturday, March 9 will honor service men and women with Military Appreciation
Day, presented by CoreLogic. All active duty, military reserve, National
Guard, military retirees and veterans – and up to three of their
guests – will receive complimentary admission with food and beverage
to thank them for their service. After play, don’t miss Hoag Classic
participant and musical sensation, John Daly and “The Human Jukebox,”
Jocko Deal for a Salute to Service Live Musical Performance.
On Sunday, March 10, enjoy the thrilling final round with the entire family.
All students (18 and under) will receive complimentary admission for Student
Day presented by Kingston Technology. Youth can enjoy the Kids Fun Zone
with a variety of games and prizes, and participate in the putting contest
with the opportunity to win tournament merchandise, tickets to local attractions
and more. After tournament play ends and once the 2019 Hoag Classic Champion
is announced, join in a toast to his victory and a successful end to the
Hoag Classic.
“For one week each year, the international spotlight shines brightly
on Orange County and we’re able to showcase the best of our community,
as the tournament draws approximately 70,000 patrons, 200-plus sponsors
and 800 volunteers,” said Jeff Purser, executive director of the
Hoag Classic. “We are proud to name this event as Hoag and to provide
an unparalleled opportunity to give back to the health and vitality of
our community in Southern California.”
Each year, the tournament’s net proceeds benefit Hoag and other charitable
causes such as Military Appreciation Day initiatives. The tournament has
generated more than $20 million in its history – making it the most
philanthropic event on the PGA TOUR Champions. In addition, the Hoag Classic
will fill local hotel rooms, restaurants and businesses during tournament
week, providing an enormous influx of dollars into the local economy.
The success of this event is due in large part to the wonderful group of
volunteers. Whether you love golf or have a heart for the community, volunteering
at the Hoag Classic is an experience like no other in sports. Volunteer
registration is still open and there are many ways to get involved.
