Premier Cancer Center Coming Soon to Hoag Health Center Irvine

Among the many significant specialized services Hoag Health Center Irvine is poised to bring to Irvine and surrounding communities mid-2016, perhaps the most anticipated is the expansion of Hoag Family Cancer Institute.

Quality cancer care requires a tight team of clinical and non-clinical providers – everyone from oncologists and surgeons to nurse navigators and social workers – that works closely and effectively to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer.

Hoag is a leader in this integrated approach, making it a national name in cancer care. When Hoag Cancer Center Irvine opens, those who live and work in Irvine and the surrounding communities will benefit from Hoag’s extensive offerings.

“The most effective way to provide cancer care is through a comprehensive program, with services aggregated in one building,” said Burton Eisenberg, M.D., executive medical director of Hoag Family Cancer Institute, Grace E. Hoag Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair and professor of Clinical Surgery, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC). “Hoag is going to provide that to the community through an integrated approach which will bring the kind of high-quality cancer services that patients and their families need and deserve, close to home.”

The center will provide a full complement of oncology specialists, including surgical, medical and radiation oncologists, and house a second state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology facility that will offer the very latest in technology, advanced treatment planning and an experienced and caring staff. Through Hoag’s alliance with USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Irvine patients will also receive access to innovative research and clinical trials.

“The new cancer center will provide many levels of personalized service and care. Being part of Hoag Family Cancer Institute, our patients will have the tremendous support network and state-of-the-art care not typically found in community hospitals,” said radiation oncologist Kevin Lin, M.D.

Like Hoag Family Cancer Institute at the Newport Beach campus, the Irvine location will include infusion services for both cancer and non-cancer patients, support group sessions, education services, hereditary cancer services, nutrition services and nurse navigators who focus on facilitating care in each specific cancer type.

Hoag’s site-specific approach to cancer treatment enables providers to develop the highly honed skills that make them leaders in their fields and create the best outcomes for patients.

“Until now, Irvine has not had access to this level of comprehensive, specialized care,” Dr. Eisenberg said. “Hoag’s world-class approach befits this dynamic community.”
