Senior Center in Central Park Combines Fun, Fitness and Information in Huntington Beach

The long-anticipated Huntington Beach Senior Center in Central Park in Alliance with Hoag, is now open for business … as well as for fitness, wellness, health screenings and a lot of fun.

The 38,500-square-foot Center – dedicated to keeping Huntington Beach seniors healthy and active – was built in part with a $3.775 million gift from the Hoag Community Benefit Program.

“Hoag’s donation was the single largest gift to the Center and underscores our commitment to the health of Huntington Beach,” said Cynthia Perazzo, Hoag’s senior vice president of strategy and business development.

“Hoag has long been dedicated to delivering care to our Huntington Beach neighbors,” Perazzo said. “High quality health care is an important component of a successful community, and Hoag is fully engaged with Huntington Beach to support the health and wellness of the community.”

Hoag’s gift includes sustainable funding for five years and in-kind support that will ensure the success of the Center – and promote the health of those who use it.

Featuring a state-of-the-art 5,600-square-foot fitness center, group exercise room and dance room, the Senior Center provides exercise equipment that is safe, comfortable and easy to operate for all skill levels.

The Center also offers Hoag Health & Wellness Programming free of charge, including health screenings and presentations by Hoag and Hoag Medical Group physicians.

Screenings include eye exams, hearing tests, blood pressure screenings and memory assessments. In addition, upcoming educational programs will cover such vital topics as cancer treatment options and tips for keeping memory sharp and preventing falls.

“Access to reliable, accurate health information is one of the key ingredients to living a healthy life,” said Julie Matsuura, M.D., a Hoag Medical Group internal medicine physician and medical advisor for the Senior Center. “In addition to health screenings, the Senior Center will offer presentations that will educate the community about everything from how to manage blood pressure to how to navigate Medicare. There is just so much information out there and we want to help direct the community to the information that will empower them to stay on top of their health.”
