Council on Aging Offers Adult English as a Second Language Classes

Anyone who has tried to pick up a second language as an adult knows it is difficult. For too many, it is also prohibitively expensive.

The Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living is helping to introduce more low-income families to English by partnering with the Council on Aging for free adult ESL classes.

Jointly hired by the Center and the Council, an ESL instructor provides free courses two days a week for adults over the age of 18. Students can choose between English basics and English conversation classes.

The partnership has allowed more than 400 people to attend the ReConnect ESL classes since January, and it has allowed for a diverse mix of ages and backgrounds among students.

Childcare is available at the Center to assist adults who attend these classes. For additional information please call 949-764-6551.
