Herniated Disc Symptoms and Treatment

Herniated Disc is the bulging or rupturing of discs due to injury, obesity, disease or aging.

Symptoms: Though herniated discs are common, there can sometimes be no symptoms at all, but usually there is pain around the shoulder blades, neck, arms, hands or fingers when the problem is in the neck. Other times lumbar disc problems can cause pain, weakness, numbness or tingling in the buttocks, legs and feet.

Treatment: Herniated discs can often heal on their own, but respond well to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, bed rest and physical therapy. Cortisone-like spinal injections can help with pain and inflammation and occasionally surgery is required.

Hoag's Spine Neurosurgery program offers a treatment program‚Äč for those sufffering from herniated disc.
