Scoliosis Symptoms and Treatment

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. It can occur in children during growth spurts or in adults due to injury, degeneration or osteoporosis.

Symptoms: Not typically painful, but can be noticed first as unevenness in the shoulders. The adult version can cause slowly progress pain and debilitation in the back and lower extremities.

Treatment: Bracing, pain management, corticosteroid spinal injections are usually effective. In some cases, surgery may be required.

Hoag’s Spine Neurosurgery program offers a comprehensive treatment program for scoliosis.
