Hoag Hospital Irvine Emergency Room Expansion

Hoag Hospital Irvine on Monday, May 15, kicked off construction that will expand its emergency department by nearly five times, in addition to renovating the existing facilities.

The hospital will add 13,500 square feet of new space adjacent to the current 3,600 square feet.

Hoag officials said the growing Irvine population has outpaced the capacity of the emergency department since the hospital opened in in 2010. Daily visits have doubled and continue to rise, they said.

The project is expected to be complete by summer 2018, and will include 32 private treatment rooms, two triage areas, four fast track stations, a patient lobby and additional staff and support areas.

The existing emergency department will be open throughout the expansion.
