Categories: Press Room

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., January 29, 2020 --- Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian recently received a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation, an internationally recognized patient safety organization.

When it comes to robotic-assisted surgery, Hoag continues to be one of the national leaders in the field having recently completed its 15,000th robotic surgery. With support from its generous donor community, Hoag was the first in Southern California to employ the technology and now has six robots at its two hospital campuses: five da Vinci® Xi robots in Newport Beach, and one Xi robot in Irvine.

“Earning the Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery designation and completing our 15,000th case marks a significant milestone for our nationally recognized robotics program,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, Hoag president and CEO. “While robotics is still just one tool in a surgeon’s tool box, this advanced technology allows our physicians to consistently deliver the safest, highest-quality care to our robotic surgery patients. This minimally-invasive option is becoming the standard of care for many procedures in a variety of areas of expertise at Hoag, including cancer, women’s and heart programs, as well as general surgery.”

The designation recognizes hospitals and surgeons who demonstrate an unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care. The program is structured to help robotic surgery providers continuously improve care quality and patient safety.

This year, the Surgical Review Corporation added a new category of Master Surgeons that included specialties in thoracic, gynecology, oncology, colorectal and more. Hoag is a renowned leader in this exceptional field of medicine, with eight specialties and more than 42 physician leaders contributing to a nationally recognized robotics program.
