Hoag’s dedicated gastroenterologists are the foundation of Hoag Digestive Institute. These community physicians act as the quarterback for patients, using advanced tools to provide accurate diagnosis to place patients on the right treatment path. They work closely with many Hoag GI subspecialists, including one of the few hepatologists in Orange County, Tse Ling Fong, M.D., director of Hoag’s Liver Program, and IBD specialist Caroline Hwang, M.D., director of the Margolis Family Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, as well as GI surgeons and other specialists to provide a collaborative team-approach to care. Many of these specialists meet monthly to review patient cases and discuss optimal treatment planning.
Specialized treatment programs span from colorectal disease, liver disease, pancreas and hepatobiliary disease, esophageal and stomach conditions, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). What was once required to be a surgical treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease or complicated pancreatic cysts can now be performed endoscopically by Hoag’s advanced endoscopists.
