Unsurpassed GI Care in Your Community

Hoag Digestive Health Institute is home to a team of highly skilled, compassionate clinicians dedicated to the care of patients with general and complex gastrointestinal conditions. Ranked in the top 3% in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, the team focuses on a wholistic approach to gastrointestinal (GI) care, starting with support services including registered dietitians and nurse navigators, state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic capabilities, as well as innovative treatments and clinical trials.

“The dedication Hoag has to gastrointestinal services is evident in the quality of care we deliver,” said Paul S. Lee, M.D., gastroenterologist. “Hoag ensures we have leading physicians and subspecialists, as well as the most advanced equipment and technology, all housed in patient-centered facilities. This commitment to excellence is why Orange County has chosen Hoag as their partner in GI care.”

Hoag’s dedicated gastroenterologists are the foundation of Hoag Digestive Institute. These community physicians act as the quarterback for patients, using advanced tools to provide accurate diagnosis to place patients on the right treatment path. They work closely with many Hoag GI subspecialists, including one of the few hepatologists in Orange County, Tse Ling Fong, M.D., director of Hoag’s Liver Program, and IBD specialist Caroline Hwang, M.D., director of the Margolis Family Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, as well as GI surgeons and other specialists to provide a collaborative team-approach to care. Many of these specialists meet monthly to review patient cases and discuss optimal treatment planning.

Specialized treatment programs span from colorectal disease, liver disease, pancreas and hepatobiliary disease, esophageal and stomach conditions, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Hoag has also pushed for innovation, adopting advanced non-surgical approaches for patients who may face complications with surgery due to comorbidities. What was once required to be a surgical treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease or complicated pancreatic cysts can now be performed endoscopically by Hoag’s advanced endoscopists.

Hoag has also launched multiple clinical trials, several of which are researching new therapies for IBD. As the only IBD Program of its kind in Orange County, Hoag is offering new treatment options for patients diagnosed with Crohns or ulcerative colitis.

Hoag’s commitment to progressive therapeutic options delivered by a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team, enables patients to achieve some of the highest clinical outcomes in the nation. At Hoag, our physicians are proud to offer highly skilled and compassionate care to community and look forward to the continued excellence of the Hoag Digestive Health Institute.
