For more than seven decades, more women have trusted Hoag to deliver their babies than any other hospital in the county. At our two Hoag campuses, in Newport Beach and Irvine, close to 8,000 babies are delivered yearly – this is the second highest in the state of California. It is almost an Orange County rite of passage to labor, deliver and recover in one of Hoag’s ocean-view rooms.
So, how do you make sure you are able to deliver at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach?
“There are two ways to ensure that you have access to Hoag for your delivery,” said Lisa M. Karamardian, M.D., the Jeffrey M. Carlton Endowed Chair in Women’s Health, in honor of Dr. Anne M. Kent, and an OB/GYN with Pacific Women’s Healthcare Associates.
“The first is by choosing an obstetrician or midwife who delivers at Hoag. The second is to choose Hoag as the hospital you want to deliver and then seek out only doctors who deliver at Hoag.”
What should you consider when selecting an OB or midwife?
- Is the clinician’s office in a location that is convenient for you?
- Does the provider accept your insurance?
- Do you feel comfortable with your provider to ask questions, explain things in detail and have him or her hear your concerns?
- Do you prefer a male or female provider?
Do you need a specialist in high-risk pregnancies or one who has experience with your particular health history and medical conditions?
