Meet the Team
Hoag's Molecular Imaging & Therapy Program is led by nationally-recognized
expert Gary A. Ulaner, M.D., Ph.D. who works in collaboration with Hoag
oncologists, radiologists, nuclear medicine clinicians and staff to provide
world class cancer care to Hoag patients.
Gary A. Ulaner, M.D., Ph.D.
Program Director
Dr. Ulaner joined Hoag from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where
he served as the PET/CT expert on the Breast Cancer and Myeloma Disease
Management Teams. Dual board-certified in radiology and nuclear medicine,
Dr. Ulaner is a nationally recognized expert in the use of targeted imaging
to help direct focused cancer therapies. He leads several National Institutes
of Health (NIH) clinical trials in molecular imaging and therapeutics,
including two active NIH R01 grants, and has received more than $8 million
in extramural funding.
Dr. Ulaner completed his medical degree and a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology at
Stanford University School of Medicine, an internship at Johns Hopkins
Hospital, and his Radiology and Nuclear Medicine residencies at the University
of Southern California.
Beth Thomsen, CNMT
Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Beth Thomsen is a certified nuclear medicine technologist with more than
23 years of experience in nuclear medicine imaging and therapy. Beth is
a patient liaison within the Hoag Molecular Imaging & Therapy Program,
coordinating and assisting with administration of treatment and clinical
care for patients. She was integral in launching the molecular therapy
agent Lutathera® in 2018, allowing Hoag to be the only hospital in
Orange County to offer this FDA approved treatment. Beth works closely
alongside Dr. Ulaner to provide seamless, patient-centered care with the
Hoag Molecular Imaging & Therapy Program.
