Meet The Team
Hoag Family Cancer Institute offers an experienced multidisciplinary team
of board certified medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic
surgeons, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and a dedicated lung cancer
nurse navigator who work together to provide personalized patient-centered care.
Hoag’s expert lung care team works collaboratively to determine the
best course of treatment for each individual patient. Having a specialized
team that’s highly trained in all aspects of
innovative lung cancer care is a unique distinction that sets Hoag apart from many other centers and
provides patients with the highest quality care, as well as exceptional
clinical outcomes.
As part of Hoag’s multidisciplinary approach, the lung cancer team
conducts weekly
Lung Cancer Case Conferences where experts from all disciplines gather together to review cases from
every angle to ensure the latest knowledge in cancer treatment is applied.
Lung Cancer Program Director

Daryl Pearlstein, M.D., is the Program Director for Lung Cancer at Hoag and a board-certified,
subspecialty-trained thoracic surgeon. In his role as Program Director,
Dr. Pearlstein oversees and directs all clinical aspects of Hoag's
Lung Cancer Program for Orange County. He completed his medical schooling
at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee and
fellowships at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Lung Cancer Screening Program Director

Winston Whitney, M.D., is a board-certified Radiologist who completed his Medical Schooling
at Duke University and Fellowship at Stanford. He is the Program Director
over Hoag Outpatient Imaging, and provides physician leadership for the
vital Lung Cancer Screening Program.
Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Navigator

Lilian Reed, R.N.C. serves an important role as facilitator and guide for Hoag patients through
each phase of care. From answering questions and helping to coordinate
the patient’s multidisciplinary care plan, to providing educational
resources and support, Hoag’s lung cancer clinical nurse navigator
provides important guidance to patients and their family.

Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Case Conferences
Hoag’s multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Case Conferences provide collaborative
care planning for lung cancer patients. The weekly Lung Cancer Case Conference
brings together all of a patient’s physicians for a multidisciplinary
approach to treatment planning. All aspects of a patient’s care
are discussed by a team of lung cancer specialists, including thoracic
surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists,
radiologists, pathologists, nurses and support staff.
