The Hoag Young Adult Program is an 8-week, skills-based experience for adults 18–28 navigating emotions, isolation, and uncertainty. Our small-group sessions help build tools for regulation, social effectiveness, and resilience. No judgment, just support.

Being a young adult today is harder than ever—58% say they lack a sense of purpose, and nearly half feel the weight of a world that seems to be unraveling. Whether you’re the one facing these struggles or a parent watching your child navigate them, our Young Adult Mental Health program offers the guidance, tools, and support needed to find stability and hope.

    Program Structure

Our young adult program focuses on building essential coping and social-emotional skills to better navigate their depression, anxiety, mood dysregulation, and more. Review a sample of our curriculum to see how our approach is different.

    Skills-Based Learning

Led by a team of experts, this accredited treatment program equips young adults ages 18 to 28 with tools to learn coping strategies and how to build healthy relationships. In a supportive, in-person, small group setting, participants will meet three days a week for eight consecutive weeks. Just like physical health, the sooner a mental health or emotional concern is identified and addressed, the better the outcome.

    What You'll Gain

By the end of the program, you can expect to: understand and manage your emotions instead of feeling controlled by them; feel more connected and confident in your relationships; replace harmful coping habits with healthier strategies; increase focus and motivation for school, work, or life goals; gain a stronger sense of self, direction, and purpose; create strategies for managing future anxieties or stressors.

    Our Approach

Utilizing Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, our experts help young adults to better take on day to day stresses and pitfalls that are common in their current stage of life. By working in a group setting, participants will be able to build relationship skills, which can improve effectiveness in school, work, and interpersonal situations. With the help of our experienced interdisciplinary treatment team, participants will learn to navigate the challenges of this transitional stage by: improving their sense of self and incorporating strategies related to emotional regulation and distress tolerance; learning and applying effective coping skills to their day to day lives; establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with not only themselves but with family members, friends and the community; and helping them build their own identity.

Support, Skills and a Place to be Yourself

Our Young Adult Mental Health program is an 8-week Intensive Outpatient Program that meets four afternoons per week, helping young adults develop essential coping strategies and social-emotional skills when they need it most. This is an interactive, educational classroom setting designed to be collaborative. This program is not group therapy; it’s educational skill coaching.

    Explore how our program works

The Hoag Young Adult Mental Health program is a specialized 8-week program designed to support young adults aged 18-28 in developing essential coping skills for managing their mental health. The program is grounded in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a highly effective therapeutic approach that equips participants with practical tools to handle life’s challenges and enhance their overall well-being. The group structure fosters a sense of community and peer support, allowing participants to share their experiences and learn from one another in a safe and nurturing environment. The program runs three days per week—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—providing a balanced structure for participants to integrate therapy into their daily lives while maintaining other commitments such as work or school. This program is not group therapy; it’s educational skill coaching.

    • Program Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM

    • Evidence-based therapy: Group sessions using DBT and CBT

    • Multidisciplinary care team: Therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers

    • Judgment-free environment rooted in empathy and encouragement

Not all mental health programs are built the same, and neither are you

Not all mental health programs are built the same — and neither are you.

At Hoag, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. We offer something different: personalized, science-backed mental health support tailored specifically for young adults like you. Here's why more people are choosing Hoag over national or online-only programs:

      1. Science That Works - Our program is built on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) — one of the most effective treatments for anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and more. This isn’t just talk therapy — you’ll learn practical, proven skills you can use in real life, starting day one.

      2. Real Human Connection - While other programs rely heavily on apps or pre-recorded modules, we offer in-person care in a small group setting where you’re seen, heard, and supported. Our licensed therapists specialize in working with young adults and understand the unique challenges you're facing — from school stress and identity shifts to navigating independence and adult relationships.

      3. Care That’s Close to Home - Hoag is not just a name on a website; we’re part of your community. With locations in Newport Beach and Irvine, you get the benefit of care that’s local, accessible, and backed by the full excellence of the Hoag Health Network — one of California’s top-ranked health systems.

      4. More Than a Program — A Continuum of Care - Because we’re part of Hoag, we can offer continuity beyond the 8 weeks — including referrals to individual therapy, psychiatry, or other specialized services if you need them. You're not just entering a program. You're stepping into a network of long-term support.

You deserve care that meets you where you are and helps you grow forward. Hoag offers more than just therapy. We offer a foundation for real change.
