Hoag Nationally Recognized for Commitment to Excellence in Stroke Care

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (July 10, 2026) — Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and Hoag Hospital Irvine have each received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plusquality achievement award for their commitment to ensuring people experiencing stroke receive timely, appropriate treatment based on nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.
Each year, participating hospitals qualify for this award by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality stroke care, ultimately helping to save lives and reduce disability. As a national leader in stroke care, Hoag reports top-tier outcomes for stroke patients by utilizing the latest technologies, comprehensive stroke experts, and an experienced support team for rapid diagnosis and stroke rescue. In addition to following clinical treatment guidelines, Get With The Guidelines participants also provide education to help people manage their recovery and ongoing health at home. Hoag supports this with a comprehensive rehabilitation program, community-wide stroke education, and widely available materials like a stroke risk scorecard to use to initiate discussions with doctors.
“Hoag is committed to providing the best patient care and does so by not only adhering to, but getting ahead of, the latest treatment guidelines,” said Dr. David Brown, program director of Hoag’s Stroke Program. “Every day we aim to put the newest, science-backed treatment strategies into practice to support better recovery with the ultimate goal of helping people in Orange County live longer, healthier lives.”
Hoag Newport and Hoag Irvine also received the American Heart Association’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite award, meaning both hospitals met specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy, as well as the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award, which aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.
Hoag Newport also received the American Heart Association’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Advanced Therapy award by meeting specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment to remove the clot causing the stroke.
