Deliver Your Baby at Hoag Newport Beach
Maternity Care at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach
While we hope that all deliveries are routine, we specialize in the un-routine. Through our excellence in maternal-fetal medicine, our level IIIa neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and our unique obstetrics emergency department (OB/ED), we strive to be the safest place in Orange County to deliver a baby.
The Sue & Bill Gross Women’s Pavillion at Hoag Newport Beach is home to the county’s largest and most respected maternal child services program, with nearly 200,000 babies born to date. Our renowned maternal child services program remains focused on delivering family-centered care through its experienced obstetrical team, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and certified nursing staff. This exceptional birthing center was specifically designed to create a first-class experience for all patients and their families. Included in the Women’s Pavilion at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach is an advanced fetal diagnostic testing unit; a 14-bed antepartum unit; 18 fully equipped labor, delivery, and recovery suites; and a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) providing specialized, around-the-clock care for infants born prematurely, or with complications.
Hoag’s 18 private LDR (labor, deliver, recovery) suites are found on the fifth floor of Hoag Hospital Newport Beach. These lovely suites provide comfort during labor and quickly transform into fully equipped delivery rooms for childbirth. The LDR unit has three C-section rooms and is staffed round-the-clock with anesthesiologists and OB/GYN Hospitalists.
Take the virtual tour of our Sue and Bill Gross Women’s Pavilion to view firsthand the comfortable and spacious Labor, Delivery & Recovery (LDR) and Mother Baby Unit (MBU) suites.
The 49-bed postpartum unit is a sanctuary for new families to recover and bond. Hoag had adopted a policy of “non-separation” and newborns room-in with their mothers in the spacious family-centered postpartum rooms. The nursery is primarily used as a transitional nursery for examinations by a baby’s physician and for circumcisions.
Hoag attained the Magnet® recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. This credentialing program for hospitals recognizes excellence in nursing and is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practices. Magnet® recognition is the highest designation an organization can receive for professional nursing practice, and our ratio of neonatal nurses-to-patients is exceptionally low to assure excellent care.
The specialty antepartum unit on the fourth floor is a 14-bed haven for high-risk obstetric patients who require inpatient services. Comfortable and quiet, this unit has immediate access to operating rooms in the event of an emergency.
Hoag’s Fetal Diagnostic Center and Development Assessment Center provides a range of antepartum diagnostic services using the latest technology and techniques, including non-stress fetal-heart-rate test (NST) and measurement of the amniotic fluid index (AFI).
Adjacent to the Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) unit is the three-bed OB Triage and four-room OB/ED that services women over 16 weeks of pregnancy who come to Hoag via the Emergency Department or physician referral.
Babies don’t watch the clock. That’s why the Sue & Bill Gross Women’s Pavillion in Newport Beach offers the OB Hospitalist program through the Obstetrix Medical Group. Providing more than 20 hospital-based, OB/GYN physicians (hospitalists) on-site at Hoag 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, this program is designed to be a safety net for any and all emergencies. These highly-skilled, Board Certified OB/GYNs will provide consistent care to patients in the hospital, as well as emergent care to those arriving in Labor & Delivery.
Hoag has received the prestigious SOAP Center of Excellence (COE) designation by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). The SOAP Center of Excellence designation recognizes institutions and programs that demonstrate excellence in obstetric anesthesia care, sets a benchmark level of expected care to improve the standards nationally, and provides a broad surrogate quality metric of institutions providing obstetric anesthesia care.
Maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) doctors are experts in high-risk pregnancy, caring for women who have a preexisting health condition, a complication or a problem with the pregnancy itself. Hoag offers two MFM clinics, one in Newport Beach and one in Irvine, as well as a Perinatal Nurse Navigator program to help expecting moms whose complex medical conditions require special care, planning and services in advance of delivery.
From Hoag’s level IIIa neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Newport Beach and our special care nursery (SCN) in Irvine, Hoag serves our community with advanced, around-the-clock care for infants born prematurely, or with complications.
