Orthopedics Physical Therapy
Hoag physical therapists are key members of the orthopedic health care
team. Their role is to improve movement, restore function and relieve
pain. Through evaluation and individualized treatment programs, physical
therapists can treat existing problems and provide preventative health
care for people with a variety of needs.
Hoag physical therapists utilize advanced manual therapy techniques, therapeutic
exercise, and progressive post operative or post injury care to return
individuals to their prior level of activity/sport. Each 40 minute session
is one on one with a licensed therapist or physical therapist assistant.
The physical therapy team works closely with the physician, patient and
family to provide evaluation and treatment for a variety of orthopedic
diagnoses and injuries involving:
- Cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Hip and sacroilliac joint
- Foot and ankle
- Headaches
- Arthritis
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Repetitive strain injury
- Neuropathy
- Amputation
After the initial evaluation, the physical therapist will develop a treatment
plan to address each patient’s individual needs. Treatment is dependent
upon physician order, diagnosis and symptoms but may include:
- Exercise for strength and flexibility
- Gait and transfer training
- Balance training
- Joint and soft tissue mobilization
- Activities of daily living
- Edema management
- Modalities to control pain and swelling or for muscle re-education
- Patient, family and caregiver education
