What to Expect During Your Stay at Hoag’s Acute Rehabilitation Center
At Hoag, we understand that starting rehabilitation can feel overwhelming. That’s why we make sure every patient knows what to expect and feels supported every step of the way. While your treatment plan will be customized to your unique condition, recovery goals, and pace of progress, there are some common experiences all patients can anticipate during their stay.
Comprehensive Assessment and Personalized Planning
Your journey begins with a thorough evaluation by our licensed admissions liaison and medical director. Together, they take the time to learn about your health history, current needs, and personal recovery goals. This assessment helps us design a customized care plan that balances short-term improvements with long-term independence. You and your family are active participants in this process, ensuring your treatment plan reflects what matters most to you.
Daily Treatment Schedule
Most patients participate in a combination of physical, occupational, and speech therapy for at least three hours per day, split between morning and afternoon sessions. Therapy is personalized to your needs—for example, building strength and balance after a stroke, relearning daily activities after orthopedic surgery, or strengthening communication skills following a neurological condition.
You will have a midday break for lunch and rest, and when appropriate, therapy may also be provided on weekends to help you continue making progress.
Length of Stay
Your length of stay depends on your diagnosis and goals. Some patients may require a shorter stay, while others benefit from a longer course of therapy. On average, patients spend 12 to 14 days in our program. Throughout your stay, your care team will regularly review your progress with you and your family to update your plan and set realistic expectations for discharge and next steps.
Your Care Team
During your stay, you’ll be supported by a compassionate, highly skilled team dedicated to your recovery. Every member of your care team works together to ensure your treatment is safe, effective, and personalized to your needs.
Physicians & Medical Director: Oversee your medical care, monitor your progress, and adjust your treatment plan as needed.
Registered Nurses: Provide around-the-clock medical support, administer medications, and help you manage daily health needs.

Rehabilitation Nurses & Therapy Assistants: Support your day-to-day therapy activities and provide encouragement as you work toward your goals.
Together, this team creates a supportive environment where patients and families feel empowered, informed, and encouraged throughout the recovery journey.
