Antonio Alcantar

As a high school student sitting in human biology class, Dr. Alcantar developed an interest in the complexities of science and a curiosity to learn more. Combined with a desire to help people, becoming a physician presented an opportunity to mesh his interests into a lifelong career of learning and serving.

Family medicine is a field where Dr. Alcantar can establish longitudinal relationships and work with patients to address multiple aspects of medicine including acute, chronic and preventative needs. He says, “The breadth of information inherent to family medicine makes for a challenging yet engaging career.”

In his practice, he employs a compassionate approach as he meets each patient to learn about their individual circumstances. In doing so, Dr. Alcantar is able to manage patient’s health care needs and provide counsel in a way that is specific to the individual. Thus, creating trust and promoting autonomy. The partnership created between himself and the patient can positively impact their life allowing for maintenance of or returning to things that bring meaning and joy to their lives.

Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Alcantar received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and completed his family medicine residency at Dignity Health Methodist Hospital in Sacramento, California.

Outside of work, Dr. Alcantar enjoys spending time with his wife, hiking and exploring Orange County’s local beaches, cycling, billiards and learning to play tennis.
