The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Department at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is dedicated to training the next generation of medical professionals in a dynamic, patient-centered environment. What We Offer
Our department offers specialized fellowships, including the Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship and the Molecular Imaging & Therapy Fellowship, which provide focused training and cutting-edge research opportunities. In addition, we provide PA Student Rotations, offering invaluable hands-on experience in various medical settings.

Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship
The aim of the AEF program is to train gastroenterologists in performing all cognitive and technical aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic techniques. At the conclusion of training, we expect the AEF graduates to be competent to establish an interventional endoscopy unit at their own hospital, hold a high-volume practice treating complex disease processes, and continue to further advance the field in both clinical research and development.
Diabetology Fellowship
The Hoag Diabetology Fellowship provides advanced training in the comprehensive management of diabetes and metabolic disease, combining cutting-edge therapeutics, technology, and population health strategies. Fellows gain hands-on experience across outpatient and inpatient settings, managing complex cases while working with the latest diabetes devices and care models. The program offers individualized training pathways and emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration to support holistic, patient-centered care. Graduates are prepared to lead diabetes programs, advance innovative care approaches, and improve outcomes for diverse patient populations.
Foregut Surgery Fellowship
The Hoag Foregut Surgery Fellowship offers advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant foregut diseases. Led by Dr. Christy Dunst and in collaboration with renowned interventional endoscopist Dr. Kenneth Chang, the program combines innovative surgical techniques, multidisciplinary training, and a strong foundation in foregut pathophysiology. Fellows gain experience in advanced endoscopy, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and related specialties, while participating in structured education and research. Graduates are prepared to lead foregut programs and manage complex foregut conditions in high-volume clinical settings.
Molecular Imaging & Therapy Fellowship
Fellows in the Hoag Molecular Imaging and Therapy Program receive comprehensive clinical experience in molecular imaging and therapy, play a significant role in diagnostic consultation and are actively involved in regular triage of patients to ensure that the appropriate study is performed.
Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is proud to train the next generation of Oncoplastic breast surgeons as the first Advanced Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship program in the United States. This one-year program will provide a broad multi-disciplinary clinical experience in all aspects of oncoplastic breast surgery. The fellow will receive in depth exposure in breast surgery and plastics and reconstructive surgery. The surgical training experience will cover level 1 and level 2 oncoplastic procedures.

Parental Leave
In accordance with ACGME Institutional Requirements IV.H.1., fellows are eligible for up to six weeks of approved medical, parental, and caregiver leave(s) of absence for qualifying reasons consistent with applicable laws once and at any time after their start date. Further, fellows are eligible for an additional one week of paid time off reserved for use outside of the first six weeks of the approved medical, parental, or caregiver leave(s) of absence.

An active affiliation agreement must be on file with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in order to rotate at the institution. If an agreement needs to be initiated, the process can take up to 120 days. Requirements for PA Students Interested in a Clinical Rotation
Prospective PA students are not permitted to contact Hoag providers directly regarding precepting. All contact and requests must go through your school’s clinical coordinator or program director, following the instructions below:
1. Confirm your school’s affiliation.
Verify with your clinical coordinator or program director that your school has a current student affiliation agreement with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.
2. Confirm preceptor affiliation.
Verify with your clinical coordinator or program director that your school is affiliated with a Hoag preceptor for your desired rotation.
3. Submit a rotation request.
Have your clinical coordinator or program director submit a rotation request on your behalf to: GMEOffice@hoag.org.
If the rotation request is approved and confirmed, students will be asked to provide the following as part of Hoag’s student onboarding requirements:
Proof of immunization or positive serology titer for rubella, measles, and mumps
Proof of annual influenza vaccine or declination
Proof of immunization, positive serology titer, or immunity by history of disease for varicella
Evidence of Hepatitis B, either positive antibody titers or immunizations
Annual proof of negative tuberculosis testing by Purified Protein Derivative PPD skin test. Any student who has a positive PPD skin test will be required to provide evidence of a negative chest X-ray report taken within one year of their initial date of participation in the program.
