Vinh Tonthat

Dr. Vinh Tonthat is dual board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine and joined the Hoag Medical Staff in 2019. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine and his medical degree from the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine before completing a rigorous five-year combined residency in Emergency and Internal Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center, where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Tonthat brings a unique dual-specialty perspective to the Emergency Department, with a background that includes quality improvement research and medical simulation instruction. He has served as an ACLS instructor and was instrumental in organizing medical mission trips to Haiti during his training. A proud Orange County native returning to his roots, Dr. Tonthat is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based emergency care to the community he grew up in.
