About Dr. Grossman
Dr. Steven Grossman is an internationally recognized physician-scientist and academic leader with more than 25 years of experience in cancer research, education, and clinical care. He brings deep expertise in gastrointestinal cancers, particularly pancreatic, colorectal, and esophageal. He is widely known for his pioneering work in cancer biology, tumor suppressor genes, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies.
As Executive Medical Director of the Hoag Family Cancer Institute, Dr. Grossman leads a multidisciplinary team advancing cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship through innovation and compassion. He is deeply committed to translating molecular discoveries into real-world treatments, having led numerous NIH- and foundation-funded studies on cancer-driving mechanisms. His translational research continues to shape new therapeutic approaches for pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancers.
Dr. Grossman is driven by the wonder of discovery and the pursuit of breakthrough science. His work bridges clinical trials, emerging technology, and integrative care models to deliver personalized, holistic experiences for patients and their families. He earned an A.B. in biology from Princeton University, followed by an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology from the University of Chicago. He completed residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Before joining Hoag, Dr. Grossman held major academic leadership roles at Harvard Medical School, University of Massachusetts, Virginia Commonwealth University, and most recently served as Deputy Director for Clinical Services and Cancer Physician-in-Chief at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
