About Dr Raghuveer Ranganathan
Bio
Raghuveer Ranganathan, M.D., serves as the Medical Director of the Immune Effector and Cell Therapy Program for the Hoag Family Cancer Institute, and he practices as a board certified medical oncologist. At Hoag, Dr Ranganathan specializes in blood cancers and cellular immunotherapies, using advanced treatments to improve outcomes and offer the potential for long-term remission.
Dr. Ranganathan earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and completed his internal medicine residency at Drexel-Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Ranganathan then finished a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in cellular immunotherapy and completed his hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dr. Ranganathan continued as faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill while also continuing his benchwork research in cellular immunotherapy, which led to the discovery and implementation of new chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T cell) therapy trials at UNC. Dr. Ranganathan then joined as an Assistant Professor at University of Southern California Norris Cancer Center and established the CAR-T cell therapy program and conducted many clinical trials in hematologic malignancies. Dr. Ranganathan has received several awards and honors for his research throughout his career from the Lymphoma Research Foundation, American Society of Hematology, and NIH. Dr. Ranganathan has co-authored numerous publications in leading medical journals and has conducted many clinical trials focusing in innovative cellular immunotherapies.
His passion for oncology comes from caring for patients facing cancer and from the responsibility of guiding both patients and their families through a complex and often life changing diagnosis. Dr. Ranganathan is also driven by a commitment to advancing cancer care through research, and views the opportunity to treat and restore health in cancer patients as one of the most meaningful ways to serve society and uses his medical training in volunteer efforts that provide care to individuals in need. Dr. Ranganathan serves as a board member for Blood Cancer United and is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Association for Cancer Research, and American Society of Clinical Oncology. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing and watching basketball, hiking, reading, and traveling.
