John S. Riel

Dr. John Riel is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and has been a member of the Hoag Medical Staff since 1999. He earned his undergraduate degree from UC San Diego, graduating magna cum laude, and his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine, where he graduated first in his class with a 4.0 GPA. Dr. Riel completed his Emergency Medicine residency at UCLA following initial surgical and family practice training.

With over 25 years of experience at Hoag, Dr. Riel is one of the most senior emergency physicians on the Newport Beach medical staff. A Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, his record of academic excellence has carried through to a distinguished clinical career serving the Orange County community.
