    About Dr. Colleen L. Coleman

    Bio

    Colleen Coleman, M.D., joined the Hoag Medical Staff in 2000 and was among the first female general surgeons at Hoag. She quickly established a high-volume practice focused on breast and endocrine surgery and later transitioned her breast practice into the Hoag Breast Centers as they expanded. Dr. Coleman has been an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons for over 25 years. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and holds advanced certification in high-volume thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Throughout her tenure at Hoag, she has served multiple terms as Chair and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery, as well as a Medical Staff At-Large Representative. Her clinical expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of breast procedures, including oncoplastic surgery, as well as open and transoral thyroid surgery and parathyroid surgery. Dr. Coleman completed her residency in general surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in 1993, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She received her undergraduate degree with high honors from the University of California, Davis, and participated in a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain, where she developed proficiency in Spanish. A graduate of Irvine High School, Dr. Coleman worked to support her early education through positions with the City of Irvine and Disneyland. She remains deeply committed to Hoag’s mission and its continued expansion to better serve the Irvine community, where she currently resides. Outside of her professional work, Dr. Coleman enjoys spending time with her husband of over 30 years, her daughter, and son.
