Hoag Again Named 5-Star Quality Hospital by CMS

Hoag is the only hospital in Orange County to achieve the distinction

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Aug. 18, 2025 — For the fourth year in a row, Hoag has earned a five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) – the highest possible rating for hospital quality – and remains the only hospital in Orange County to receive this distinction.

The CMS Star Ratings system evaluates hospitals nationwide on a range of performance indicators, including mortality rates, safety of care, readmissions, and timely and effective treatment. It was created to help consumers easily compare hospitals to make more informed decisions about their care. A five-star quality rating reflects a hospital’s superior performance across these measures and places Hoag among the top-performing hospitals in the country. This year, 91 fewer hospitals received the rating nationally than in 2024.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff to delivering the highest quality of care,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, president and CEO of Hoag. “Year after year, Hoag continues to invest in clinical excellence, safety and innovation. Our patients and their families deserve no less. No one ought to need to leave Orange County to receive world-class care.”

Hoag’s consistent 5-star quality designation is the result of a systemwide focus on measurable quality outcomes, continuous improvement, and a patient-first culture. From implementing evidence-based protocols to expanding access to specialized care, Hoag continues to lead with accountability and a commitment to advancing health care in the region.
