About Dr. Liao

Dr. Liao was inspired to become a physician after reading Hudson Taylor’s biography about serving as a missionary doctor in China in the 19th century. This fueled his desire to pursue pre-med coursework at Wheaton College which would allow him to fulfill his goal of becoming a missionary doctor.

His passion for medicine is evident with each patient he treats. He explores the emotional, social and spiritual parts of each individual to provide comprehensive care. Dr. Liao can be described as having an “out of the box” approach when addressing the needs of his patients. He does not shy away from complex cases and remains focused on solving the problem at hand. The complexity of geriatric medicine provides opportunities to solve problems that contain both high- and low-tech interventions.

Dr. Liao treats the patient and their family as one unit because he has recognized that what affects the patient will also affect the family and vice versa. He says, “The patient sets the priorities in their care and my job is to explore those priorities.”

Dr. Liao received his medical degree from University of California, Irvine in Irvine, California and completed his internal medicine residency at Northwester University McGraw Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally, he accomplished a geriatrics fellowship at the UCLA Veteran Resource Center in Los Angeles, California.

During his time outside of the office, Dr. Liao enjoys volunteering at his church and playing pickleball.
