About Dr. Deckey
Dr. Deckey is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in disorders of the spine in adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Deckey has been a national leader in spinal surgery for over 25 years, performing over 500 operations per year. As a fellowship trained spine surgeon, Dr. Deckey’s areas of expertise include complex spinal deformities including scoliosis surgery, revision surgeries, minimally invasive surgery, and disc arthroplasty. He operates on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
Dr. Deckey is managing partner of Orthopaedic Specialty Institute of Orange County where he conducts clinic hours at their Irvine and Orange locations. He is one of the founding physicians at Hoag Orthopedic Institute and is chairman of the Surgical Spine Fellowship for Hoag Orthopedics, where he remains extremely active in surgeon training, education, research, and innovation.
He received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry with honors from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was elected to the Sigma Xi national science honor society. Following Brown University, Dr. Deckey completed his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society.
Dr. Deckey completed his surgical internship and orthopaedic surgical residency at Columbia University where he was named Chief Resident and received the Orren D. Baab award for outstanding achievement and leadership. Following Columbia in 1997, Dr. Deckey completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, where he received additional training in complex spinal deformity surgery under the direction of Dr. David Bradford.
Dr. Deckey has published numerous articles, chapters, and continues to present at various conferences throughout the nation.
