About Dr. Kraft

Dr. Kraft is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon at the Hoag Breast Center. She grew up in the Midwest and as the first physician in her family, received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She finished her general surgery residency program at the New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, where she was awarded most valuable resident, exemplifying excellence, leadership and command of the surgical specialty and also during that time worked to form Weill-Cornell’s first multi-borough tissue bank to further expand their breast cancer research department. During her training in New York City, she worked at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, Mount Sinai, and New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. She completed her laparoscopic and robotic certifications and is board certified in general surgery.

Dr. Kraft went on to specialize in a breast surgical oncoplastic fellowship, spending a year at both the University of Southern California and at Hoag. She trained under Dr. Melvin Silverstein and was awarded the 8th Muzzy Family Fellowship in Oncoplastic Surgery at Hoag, which is awarded to one fellow per year who embodies the ideal oncoplastic surgeon, clinically, professionally and personally. She previously practiced in Northern California at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, a Stanford Hospital affiliate and held an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at Stanford University and was their first oncoplastic surgeon. She was voted “Best Resident Educator” by the Stanford residents before deciding to make the return to Hoag to work alongside her mentor, Dr. Silverstein.

Dr. Kraft holds an active membership with the American Society of Breast Surgeons and Society of Surgical Oncology. She has been a resident representative for Cornell Medical College Department of Breast Surgery and a breast cancer lecturer for the Bay Area Cancer Center and Latinas Contra Cancer Foundation.

Her surgical areas of expertise include breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic surgery, cosmetic breast scar placement, fibroadenoma, fibroepithelial lesions of the breast, cosmetic fibroadenoma management, breast atypia, breast simple or complex cysts, radial scar of breast, nipple discharge, papillomatosis, wire-directed or savi-directed lumpectomy, axillary sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary dissection, nipple-sparing mastectomy, skin-sparing mastectomy, Wise pattern mastectomy, aesthetic flat mastectomy closure and elective cosmetic mastectomy (top surgery), high-risk genetic mutations for breast cancer, and granulomatous mastitis.

Her academic areas of interest include surgeon burnout, female surgeon burnout, innovations of patient education, technological innovations in surgery, ergonomics of surgery, robotic mastectomy, and surgical resident education, financial literacy in medical education.
