About Dr. Wertman
Dr. Wertman joined Coastal Cardiology of Orange County in 2010. A native of Orange County, Dr. Wertman graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biochemistry as well as Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He then traveled to the Pacific Northwest and earned his medical degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He went on to complete his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at UCLA Medical Center, where he was awarded the Commendation for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching. He completed his fellowship training in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Dr. Wertman has authored numerous publications in leading peer-reviewed journals on topics relating to Interventional Cardiology and has participated in several live case transmissions to national meetings demonstrating new techniques in the treatment of coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease. Dr. Wertman has received extensive training in the percutaneous treatment of valvular heart disease, including aortic valve replacement using the Edwards Sapien Valve as well as mitral valve repair using the Abbott Mitra-Clip system. He additionally has significant experience in several other novel interventional therapies, including Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closure, Left Atrial Appendage closure, and Alcohol Septal Ablation for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
Dr. Wertman was born and raised in Newport Beach and in his spare time enjoys relaxing with his family, travel, and exercise. He currently serves as Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Hoag Hospital Irvine and was named a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) for 2016 and 2017.
