Renowned Cardiac Surgeon Joins Hoag

Skill. Expertise. Compassion. The Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute at Hoag attracts the nation’s most sought-after talent to deliver the highest-quality cardiac care to Orange County.

Renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Timothy Lee, M.D., M.S., has recently joined the team and is excited to work with an institution that is recognized as one of the country’s top cardiovascular hospitals.

“Hoag’s reputation for innovation makes it one of the premier places to work as a cardiothoracic surgeon,” Dr. Lee said. “I’m looking forward to joining this cutting-edge team.”

Dr. Lee comes to Hoag from San Francisco, where he was known for delivering personalized cardiac care through an expertise in minimally invasive surgeries, all arterial coronary artery bypass surgeries, the repair and replacement of heart valves and clinical trial research. He is fellowship-trained and double-board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery, and his research has been published in many peer-reviewed journals.

“Dr. Lee possesses the intellect, drive, compassion and expertise that patients have come to expect with Hoag’s cardiac care,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, president and CEO of Hoag. “We believe he will be an asset to our patients and to our community, and we are excited for Dr. Lee to join the Hoag team.”

He joins renowned cardiac surgeons Anthony Caffarelli, M.D., F.A.C.C., Newkirk Family Endowed Chair in Aortic Care, director of Hoag Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Elaine & Robert Matranga Aortic Center and Asad Shah, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.S., co-director of Hoag Cardiothoracic Surgery at Newport Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery.

The Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute at Hoag is one of the preeminent cardiovascular centers in the U.S. Well-respected for delivering quality care and exceptional patient outcomes in the areas of valve disease, vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmia, Hoag has achieved international and national accreditation for many of its programs.

It is rare to find an institution that brings together clinical trial research with patient-centric care, a combination that appealed to Dr. Lee, whose compassionate approach make him the right fit for Hoag.

“Dr. Lee shares Hoag’s commitment to bringing top-tier university-level care to a setting that puts the patient first,” said Dr. Caffarelli. “We are very excited to have him join our team.”
