Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (or Pseudotumor Cerebri)

Our brain and spinal cord normally sit in a bath of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Due to abnormalities in the flow of CSF, the pressure of CSF can build up (intracranial hypertension) to levels that are unsafe, causing headaches, [pulsatile tinnitus](/specialties-services/neurosciences/diagnostics-treatment/interventional-neuroradiology/conditions-treated/pulsatile-tinnitus/), and possibly vision loss. In some patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, venous sinus stenosis (narrowing) is also present inside the skull and opening the stenosis with a stent can lead to improvement in symptoms.
