Sarcoma is a family of cancers that develops from connective tissue. There are over 70 subtypes of sarcoma. The origin of these cancers can be from bone, muscle, cartilage, fat, or other connective tissue. For this reason, sarcoma can occur anywhere in the body; however, it most commonly develops in the extremities and to a lesser extent, in the retroperitoneum and pelvis. Bone and soft tissue sarcoma are rare cancers that can occur in both men and women, as well as people of all ages, from children to the elderly. According to American Cancer Society, roughly 12,000 new sarcomas are diagnosed each year.

Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy

Through Hoag Orthopedic Institute, dedicated physical and occupational therapists assist in the rapid recovery of our patients following surgery, including ongoing therapy after discharge through Hoag Rehabilitation Services.
