Heart Healthy Education Classes

Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart and Vascular Institute at Hoag offers a variety of Heart Healthy Education Classes for the community.

All classes are free to the community.

Low Sodium Eating
Join our Registered Dietitian to learn about low sodium eating. We will discuss the role sodium plays in congestive heart failure and the importance of following a low sodium diet. We will discuss sources of sodium, label reading, and how to maintain a low sodium diet. You will also learn strategies to modifiy recipes at home while keeping them healthy and delicious.

Healthy Eating for Your Heart/Heart Healthy Dining
In our Healthy Eating for Your Heart Class, our Registered Dietitian will discuss how nutrition impacts cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight. You will learn label reading and strategies for reducing fat, sodium, and sugar intake while still enjoying what you eat. In our Heart Healthy Dining class, the RD will discuss strategies for making healthy choices when dining out and tips for eating at various types of restaurants.

4th Wednesday of every month, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Too Pooped To Pump - Congestive Heart Failure
This class is for individuals, including their family/support persons, living with congestive heart failure. The class will review how to manage CHF and live a quality life with this condition.

3rd Tuesday of every other month, 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Pacemaker and ICD Device class
In our implantable device class, a nurse from the Pacemaker and Arrhythmia center will teach the basics of implanted device technology. You will learn about living with your implanted device, including pacemakers and defibrillators. Bring your questions. Family members are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.
