Heart Healthy Living: Ask the Expert Panel

Taking care of your heart is an important job, but it often comes with many questions – what diet is the best? Are supplements beneficial? How much exercise should I be getting at my age? Join Hoag Cardiac Specialists for a special Ask the Expert Panel to ask all your heart health questions in an open Q&A forum.

Apple Watches, Fitbits & Your Heart Health: How to Use Them & When to Contact a Physician

Join Hoag Cardiac Specialist, Subbarao Myla and Hoag Medical Group Physicians Gabriel Carpio-Bracho, M.D. and Lauren Sweetser, M.D. for an interactive discussion around wearable devices, like the Apple Watch and Fitbit. The discussion will include a short presentation about the future of wearable devices and what that means for your heart health, as well as demonstrations and an open Q&A.

Heart Healthy Cooking Demonstration

Join Hoag Executive Chef Davis Cruz, CDM, CFPP, CPBC, as he demonstrates low fat, low salt cooking for flavorful and easy meal preparation. Food samples will be passed out during the cooking demonstration.

Low Sodium Eating

Join our Registered Dietitian to learn about low sodium eating. We will discuss the role sodium plays in congestive heart failure and the importance of following a low sodium diet. We will discuss sources of sodium, label reading, and how to maintain a low sodium diet. You will also learn strategies to modifiy recipes at home while keeping them healthy and delicious.

Healthy Eating for Your Heart

Join the Registered Dietitian to discuss how nutrition impacts cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight. You will learn label reading and strategies for reducing fat, sodium, and sugar intake while still enjoying what you eat.

Dining Out the Heart Healthy Way

Join the Registered Dietitian to discuss strategies for making healthy choices when dining out and tips for eating at various types of restaurants.

Pacemaker and ICD Device class

In our implantable device class, a nurse from the Pacemaker and Arrhythmia center will teach the basics of implanted device technology. You will learn about living with your implanted device, including pacemakers and defibrillators. Bring your questions. Family members are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required. Heart Failure Education Class

Join a registered nurse as she discusses congestive heart failure, including: the signs and symptoms, causes, 2gm sodium diets and fluid restrictions, label reading, alternatives to salt, dining out tips, exercise guidelines and heart failure medication review.

3rd Tuesday of every other month, 2:00-3:00 p.m. (March, May, July, September, November 2019)
