Fudge Family Acute Rehabilitation Center
The Fudge Family Acute Rehabilitation Center (FFARC), located on the third
floor of the West Tower of Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, is a state-of-the-art
rehabilitation center providing customized programs to help patients improve
function, attain their greatest level of independence and return to community
living. Our world-class facility offers intensive rehabilitation to maximize
independence and improve quality of life.
The Center is available to adults who have been treated for neurologic
injuries such as: brain injury, brain tumor surgery, spinal cord injury
and surgery, or stroke. Our 18-bed, 21,000 sq. ft. center provides comprehensive
care with 24-hour nursing, full time medical director oversight and a
team of certified experts. We also provide state-of-the-art equipment
and access to Hoag education programs, as well as treatment in the therapy
garden and a putting green.
The FFARC utilizes an interdisciplinary approach focused on high-level
assessments of functional health patterns, establishing mutual patient/caregiver
goals targeted at providing optimal functional outcomes resulting in the
overall well-being of the patient through the achievement of realistic
goals using current research and evidence-based strategies.

Our compassionate care environment promotes recovery. From the design of
the center to the design of our team, our specialists have thought of
every detail to help patients return to independent or modified independent living.
Our interdisciplinary treatment team includes:
- Nurse navigator
- Occupational therapists
- Physicians
- Rehabilitation nurses
- Physical therapists
- Recreational therapist
- Speech language pathologists
Other services may include:
- Case management
- Chaplain services
- Dietary services and dietician consults
- Hospital pharmacy
- Laboratory services
- Radiology services
- Respiratory therapy
- Therapy Team - Consists of physical, occupational, speech and recreational
therapists.
- Rehabilitation Nurse - Your primary caregiver who is specialized in rehabilitation.
- Social Worker - Supports your emotional needs during your hospital stays.
- Patient Care Assistant - Assists the nurse in your care.
- Caregiver - Family member, significant other or friend who will be helping
with your rehabilitation process.
- Nurse Navigator - Provides assistance to patients and their families, to
help them access and navigate through Hoag’s resources as well as
the health care system as a whole.
Keyvan Esmaeili, MD, is the medical director of the Fudge Family Acute
Rehabilitation Center. He is a board certified physical medicine and rehabilitation
physician. Brian Boone, PT, DPT, is the Therapy Manager, and Belinda Stewart-Burger,
MSN, RN, CCRN, CNRN, SCRN, is the interim Nurse Manager.
