team of experts, across the spectrum of specialties.
Anthony Caffarelli, M.D.
Director, Elaine & Robert Matranga Aortic Center
Newkirk Family Endowed Chair in Aortic Care
Director, Hoag Cardiovascular Surgery
Dr. Caffarelli is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with a special
interest in aortic disease. He completed his surgical training at Stanford
University and performs a high-volume of complex aortic surgery including
reoperations, aortic arch procedures, and aortic-valve sparing procedures.
He receives referrals from throughout the Western United States for patients
with aortic disease deemed too high-risk or complicated for standard surgical
therapies.
Asad Shah, M.D.
Co-Director, Hoag Cardiovascular Surgery
Cardiovascular Surgeon
Dr. Shah is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with a special interest
in thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections. Dr. Shah completed his surgical
training at Duke University, with dedicated subspecialty training in aortic
surgery. He performs the full-spectrum of aortic interventions including
open, endovascular stenting (TEVAR), and hybrid procedures. He has done
extensive research into the genetics of aortic disease and has published
in such high-impact journals as
Nature Genetics.

Stephen F. Lindsay, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Lindsay is a board-certified vascular surgeon with a special interest
in carotid artery problems, abdominal aortic aneurysms, lower extremity
arterial and venous disease, as well as dialysis access. He completed
his surgical training at University of Southern California Medical Center.
He is a past Chief of Staff at Hoag.
David Nabi, M.D.
Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Nabi is a founding member of Orange County Vascular Specialists, the
only vascular surgery group at Hoag. His practice spans the breadth of
vascular surgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques for treatment
of aortic and lower extremity aneurysms, arterial occlusive disease, and
venous issues. He provides endovascular and open repair of the abdominal
aorta and its branches, lower extremity arterial procedures. He has previously
served as chief of vascular surgery at Hoag.
Dr. Nabi is a graduate of UCLA and UC Davis School of Medicine. He completed
general surgery and vascular surgery training programs at Stanford University
Hospital. He is board certified in vascular surgery and is a fellow of
the American College of Surgeons.
Rita Weise, MSN, ACNPC-AG
Aortic Center Nurse Practitioner
Rita is a nationally certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
She is an experienced critical care nurse who coordinates care for our
aortic center patients. She is the first point of contact for our patient
and their families while providing education, reassurance, and calmness
while navigating an aneurysm diagnosis. She sees patients alongside the
physician team and ensures that all imaging is reviewed, and the recommended
treatment plans are carried out in our active surveillance aortic center.
She is knowledgeable in the genetics of aortic disease and screens all
patients for our ongoing research studies, genetic testing, and family
screening.
David H. Liang, M.D., Ph.D.
Program Director, Hoag Marfan Syndrome & Related Conditions Program
Dr. Liang leads the Hoag Marfan Syndrome and Related Conditions Program,
part of the Elaine & Robert Matranga Aortic Center. He obtained his
medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, as well as
completed an Internal Medicine residency and a Cardiovascular Medicine
fellowship at Stanford. Dr. Liang also obtained his Ph.D. in electrical
engineering while attending Stanford.
Dr. Liang is a nationally recognized specialist in the field of Marfan
syndrome and related connective tissue conditions. He splits his time
between Hoag and Stanford caring for this community. He is a member of
the Professional Advisory Board of the Marfan Foundation.
Meg Boeglin B.S.N., R.N.
Clinical Nurse Navigator, Hoag Marfan Syndrome & Related Conditions Program
Meg is a clinical nurse navigator for the Marfan syndrome and related conditions
program at the Elaine and Robert Matranga Aortic Center. She is a resource
for patients and families as they navigate their way through their connective
tissue disorder and the health care system.
Scott Williams, M.D.
Cardiovascular Radiologist
Dr. Williams has been a member of Newport Harbor Radiology Associates since
2006. He joined NHRA after completing his diagnostic radiology residency
and subsequent body imaging fellowship at Stanford. His Stanford training
included advanced body imaging techniques, including cardiac and cardiovascular
imaging, as well as image guided interventional procedures.
Dr. Williams currently serves as the Chief of Service for the Department
of Radiology, Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, and surrounding centers. He
is the Radiology Supervisor for Hoag Urgent Care centers located throughout
Orange County. Since 2008 he has served as Section Chief for Cardiovascular
Imaging. He currently serves as the Director of the 3D Imaging Lab and
is the founder of the 3D printing program at Hoag. He is an integral member
of the Trans Arterial Valve Replacement (TAVR) team for the Jeffrey M.
Carlton Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Williams is a founding member
and physician champion of the Hoag Physician Wellness Committee. He also
serves as a member of the Quality Improvement Committee of the Board for
Hoag Hospital.
Humberto Wong, M.D.
Cardiovascular Radiologist
Dr. Wong joined the radiology department at Hoag in 2008. He completed
all of his medical training at Stanford University Medical Center including
his medical degree, radiology residency and cardiovascular imaging fellowship.
He has extensive experience in cardiac MRI and cardiac/coronary CTA as
well as interpretation of CT angiography for valvular procedure such as
TAVR. He is co-President of Newport Harbor Radiology Associates and Adjunct
Clinical Instructor in the Cardiovascular Imaging in the Department of
Radiology at Stanford University Medical Center.
