that has expertise in treating these conditions. The Hoag Marfan Syndrome
and Related Conditions Program in the Elaine & Robert Matranga Aortic
Center is led by Dr. David Liang and supported with a multidisciplinary
specialty network of physicians and nurses.
Program Medical Director
David Liang, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Liang is a cardiovascular specialist who is nationally recognized for
his care of Marfan syndrome and connective tissue conditions. Dr. Liang
brings over 25 years of experience to Hoag patients and their families.

Clinical Nurse Navigator
Meg Boeglin, B.S.N., R.N.
Meg Boeglin is a clinical nurse navigator who understands the complexities
of cardiovascular related connective tissue disorders and acts as a resource
to patients and their families to access and navigate Hoag resources and
the health care system as a whole.
Cardiothoracic Surgeon Team
Anthony Cafarelli, M.D.
Anthony D. Caffarelli, M.D. is the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at
Hoag, as well as Director of the Elaine & Robert Matranga Aortic Center
and the Newkirk Family Endowed Chair in Aortic Care at Hoag. He is one
of the highest volume cardiothoracic surgeons in Orange County, and specializes
in complex aortic procedures, including aneurysms, dissections, bicuspid
aortic valve disease, and valve sparing root procedures.

Asad Shah, M.D.
Asad Shah, M.D. is a high-volume cardiothoracic surgeon who performs the
full-spectrum of cardiac surgical procedures. His clinical interests include
thoracic aortic disease, minimally invasive valve surgery, coronary artery
bypass grafting, and transcatheter therapies, including TAVR and TEVAR.
He is certified on the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.

Rita Weise, MSN, ACNPC-AG

Rita Weise, MSN, ACNPC-AG is the nurse practitioner for Hoag's Elaine
& Robert Matranga Aortic Center. She sees patients in clinic, alongside
the physician team, and acts as a resource for those living with aortic disease.
