Pravin M. Shah, M.D., Receives the American Society of Echocardiography 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award

Newport Beach, Calif. – Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian today announced that Pravin M. Shah, M.D., M.A.C.C., medical director of non-invasive cardiac imaging and academics program at the Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute, was awarded the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Shah will be presented with the award at ASE’s Annual Scientific Sessions.

The ASE Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual award designed to recognize a physician and a sonographer who have had a lifetime of exceptional achievements in the field of cardiovascular ultrasound. Winners are required to have a career spanning at least 25 years, must be recognized at local, national and international levels, and serve as a role model in the clinical field through service, research and teaching. In light of his successes, Dr. Shah was invited to give the Edler Lecture at ASE’s Annual Scientific Sessions in 2002.

“Dr. Shah’s extensive efforts and accomplishments in the field of cardiovascular ultrasound are an embodiment of what our society strives for,” said Dr. Sanjiv Kaul, MD, FASE, president of ASE. “His ongoing advocacy of clinical research and member education is exemplary, and we look forward to our continued work with him in the future.”

In addition to his position at the Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute, Dr. Shah is the chair and medical director of the Hoag Heart Valve Center at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. Active in postgraduate education, he has directed more than 50 educational programs for the American College of Cardiology, from which he received the Gifted Teacher Award in 1999 and was designated Master of Cardiology in 2000. His clinical and research interests include heart valve disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, echocardiography with emphasis on intraoperative echo, and clinical diagnosis. Dr. Shah travels extensively on both a national and international level as a guest lecturer.

“To receive such an esteemed award from the American Society of Echocardiography is an honor,” said Dr. Shah. “The society continues to pave the way for innovation in the field of cardiovascular ultrasound, and in light of this dedication, I plan to persist in upholding the ASE’s mission to drive awareness in both the clinical field and among the public.”?
