Inpatient Hematology Oncology Care
Most of the inpatient delivery of chemotherapy and the inpatient management of complications that are secondary to cancer and/or its treatment take place on the 8th floor of the West Tower of Hoag. In order to assure high quality oncology patient care and to retain oncology specialized nurses, the 8th floor has functioned as an inpatient oncology unit since 1990.
Hoag’s 8th floor inpatient care unit includes:
- 33 beds, remodeled in 2011
- 53 R.N.s total, 18 oncology certified nurses (O.C.N.)
- All R.N.s are chemotherapy certified and have their National Chemo/Biotherapy Provider Cards
Hoag’s 8th floor oncology team has also received the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative award for outstanding management of pain in cancer patients – 2005.
