Overview

At Hoag, patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer have a better chance of surviving the cancer because Hoag's survival rates are better than the national average.*

Hoag is the leading provider of gynecologic cancer care, treating more women than any other hospital in Orance County.  With a multidisciplinary approach that includes prevention, early detection, the use of promising new therapies and complementary care, the team at Hoag provides gynecologic cancer patients with every therapeutic advantage.

Endometrial cancer, also known as uterine cancer, is the most common gynecologic malignancy and when discovered early, surgery alone may be adequate therapy.

Endometrial cancer arises from the uterus, which is a pear shaped organ in the center of the female pelvis.  The majority of the tumors arise from the uterine lining, which is called the endometrium.  A small percentage of uterine tumors arise from the muscle (called myometrium) of the uterus and are called sarcomas.

It is often detected at an early stage because it frequently produces vaginal bleeding between menstrual periods or after menopause. If endometrial cancer is discovered early, surgery alone may be adequate therapy.
