Side effects and complications of a Breast Biopsy

This is typically a very safe procedure. However, this and other procedures in which the skin is pierced pose certain risks, which may include bruising, infection or hematoma (pooling of blood trapped inside the biopsy area). When one or more of these complications occur, they usually resolve within a brief time with proper medical attention.

Follow-up care after a Breast Biopsy

Before leaving the office, you'll be given biopsy after-care instructions specific to your individual needs. Your breast should heal quickly, leaving almost no sign of the procedure. We will give you the name and phone number of a radiologist to call if you have any concerns or problems after your biopsy.
