Infection Prevention

Hoag Infection Prevention Program

Hoag Infection Prevention ensures patient safety by reducing the risk of acquiring and transmitting infections and provides a multidisciplinary approach to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections acquired in the hospital or brought in from the community. Hoag’s goal is to eliminate healthcare-acquired infection for the entire circle of patient care. Review Hoag’s quality reports to compare our safe and effective care with the national average.

Hoag Infection Prevention participates in community outreach programs, employee health programs, and hospital wide educational programs:

  • Surveillance, prevention and control of hospital-associated infections and drug resistant organisms
  • Investigate and control hospital outbreaks among patients
  • Develop and maintain infection prevention/control policies and procedures for all hospital departments
  • Educational programs to assure quality of patient care

What you can do to prevent infection and illness:

  • Get vaccinated
  • Clean your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw the tissue in the trash after use and always clean your hands afterwards
  • Stay home when you are sick and remain at home until at least 24 hours after you are free of fever
